The Hamburg comparison platform GEHALT.de, the professional magazine Werben & Verkaufen and the human resources consultancy Designerdock have analysed the salary level structure for advertisers in a joint study for 2017. Below we have prepared a summary specifically for the PR industry.

These evaluations are always based on data records from the last twelve months to ensure that the salaries are up-to-date. The median describes the midpoint of all data: 50 percent are above the value, 50 percent are below. Q1 means that 25 percent of salaries are below this value, Q3 means that 25 percent of salaries are above this value. The average value corresponds to the arithmetic average.

 

Big gender pay gap

Women still earn less than men in the advertising industry. With a difference of 27,500 euros, the gap is particularly wide in management positions.

PR consultants respectively PR managers have the responsibility to take care of a positive image of companies or their products and services. To achieve this, they use all available instruments of press and public relations work to draw up strategies and concepts. They cultivate contact with journalists, write press releases and ensure a corporate communications strategy based on the company’s philosophy. In addition to motivation and the ability to work in a team, sensitivity in dealing with customers and business partners, professional training in marketing or communication is usually necessary. Due to their work, PR managers are especially connected with the marketing and sales departments and, after evaluating the results, they enter into agreements on how to proceed further.

The managing director is the top level of a company’s hierarchy. The work primarily focuses on management and control. They also set targets for the future financial year and initiate appropriate measures to achieve them. For this purpose, they must instruct individual departments to comply with certain requirements and, if necessary, change course in the event of deviations. Further tasks of the management are the continuous monitoring of success as well as the quality of the company and the retention of the employees. The managing director should be well informed about all areas of his company. Extensive training and several years of professional experience are usually a prerequisite for a managerial position (exceptions are, for example, start-ups).
