Instagram Trends 2020

Successful Influencer Marketing

A clear social media marketing strategy is indispensable for companies nowadays: Instagram is currently one of the most effective social media channels alongside YouTube and Snapchat. However, the channels are always on the move and the trends for successful posts are constantly changing. In fact, there is no patent remedy for the length of captions, hashtags and the use of stories. Basically, you should pay attention to what works best or what inspires the users. In this blog post, we’ve compiled some of the current Instagram trends that will be in vogue in 2020.

Instagram: Longer image captions

Long gone are the days when only a few emoticons or a simple, punchy joke served as captions. Posts with at least 1000 characters are the most successful at the moment – they have click rates that are currently twice as high as in 2017. This does not mean that every post has to be over 800 characters long. But it is now more effective to pay as much attention to the text as to the image.

The rise of IGTV

IGTV is perhaps the least used feature of Instagram, but we expect this to change in 2020. Currently, the most popular IGTVs on Instagram are serial content – those that are easily understood by the user and have a recurring theme. Credible content is the easiest way to cultivate a loyal audience. Once you’ve met a theme or style that your audience is interested in, a successful IGTV series is born!

Instagram Partnerships with Influencers

Influencers continue to have a growing impact on their followers and are increasingly included in marketing budgets. IC has already implemented numerous influencer campaigns. Currently, it seems that micro-influencers (less than 25000 followers) of any colour are the current trend. They are significantly cheaper and more authentic than their prominent colleagues with hundreds of thousands of followers. IC has extensive contacts to micro-influencers of different genres, which offer significant reach.

Authentic images on Instagram

The trend is going towards longer captions, as a longer text can often be seen as unfiltered message directly from the source. Authentic posts and images deviate from the perfect filtered world for which Instagram is notorious. Authenticity in posts was a big Instagram trend in 2019 and it looks like this trend will continue in 2020.

Brand Collaborations on Instagram

Cooperation with suitable brands can be a powerful tool for the success of a communication campaign. By cooperating with another brand, its resources are used to serve the interests of both companies. Examples of groundbreaking successes can be found in the fashion world: Supreme/Louis Vuitton, Off-White /Nike and Hermès/ Apple Watch. These collaborations have shown that they increase organic reach on social media platforms with significantly less financial outlay.

AR filter

AR filters (Augmented Reality Filters) were introduced to the market in 2018 and are still very successful today. They differ from traditional filters in that they combine some elements of virtual reality with the image to create, as the name suggests, an augmented reality. This allows brands to create their own customized AR filters. Of course, careful consideration of the target group and design is required, but if the implementation is right, AR filters can be a success.

Instagram Shopping

With Instagram Shopping, users can check offered products in more detail and purchase them on one platform. This feature is an effective way to generate additional sales. This way you use Instagram not only as an advertisement but also as a sales portal.

UGC

Using UGC (user generated content) is a smart tool that can be used for Instagram feeds of a brand. UGC brings Instagram-ready ‘ratings’ to the site and improves authenticity. This content is genuine and reliable, making it valuable information. A study by Olapic showed that 76% of consumers think that UGC is more honest than the brand’s own advertising.

Video content

One of the simplest reasons why videos are becoming more and more popular is that videos have more content than a simple picture. A great strength of video post is the way it can be used in conjunction with IGTV – giving your audience a “taste” of your IGTV content. If you like what you see, you can subscribe to it right away. Tip: Add subtitles to your videos to make them even more informative.
